Vaughn Ventus SLR3 Pro Carbon Senior Goalie Catcher
Vaughn upped their game in 2022 with the new Ventus SLR3 Pro Carbon goalie catcher. It builds off the best features of the SLR2 and more, with ShockShield foam, Kevlar in the palm, a carbon back thumb, and an overall lightweight construction. Its light weight and overall balance put it a step above its predecessors, and the glove has been augmented with better protection and durability to keep you safe and playing longer.
External Material
The glove uses jenpro leather over the outside with some big improvements, including the use of ShockShield foam and Kevlar through the palm for added protection. These materials also effectively kill the momentum of the puck, stopping it dead and reducing unwanted popouts. The glove also sports a carbon back thumb, reinforcing that area and increasing control and stiffness. The inside liner has been treated with an antimicrobial agent to help keep the glove clean, fresh, and odor-free for longer.
Break Angle
The SLR3 has a 75° break angle, which feels similar to CCM’s 600 break. This break is designed to be held in a side position, rather than upright. This catcher sticks to what worked with the previous SLR2 in terms of feel and look.
Pocket Design
The catcher continues to use a wider and deeper single-T pocket for a better hold on the puck. It works well with the ShockShield to eliminate popouts. The glove break is preformed, giving it a more natural feel, and both the finger perimeter edge and top of the T pocket have been reinforced to boost stability in those areas. The pocket uses skate laces in the webbing to reduce spin on the puck.
Strapping
The padded wrist strap on the inside of the glove has been moved up and placed closer to the hand to increase wrist mobility and flex. The strapping is simple and efficient, with good control and quick and reliable velcro.
Cuff Design
The SLR3 sticks to a flared back cuff for added mobility in the wrist. With a flared back, the glove can provide adequate protection and will not be hindered by the placement or movement of the chest and arm protector.
