Vaughn Velocity VX1 Youth Goalie Leg Pads
Intro & New Features
New for 2025, is the Vaughn Velocity VX1 Youth leg pads. Designed for young goalies, the pads feature an easy flex design specifically for smaller age groups, a pre-shaped design for easy break-in, and a double layer inner knee cradle padding.
External Material
Vaughn used classic JenPro synthetic leather on the exterior of the pads, a common option in goalie pad manufacturing due to its water resistance and durability. In addition, the pads have been outfitted with Vaughn’s own QuickSlide, renowned among many elite and professional goalies for its unparalleled glide along the ice. Growing goalies will greatly benefit from and enjoy the speed that QuickSlide offers when down on the ice.
Internal Construction
Internally, the pads have an easy flex design which is specifically designed for smaller age groups. Paired with a pre-shaped design, it allows breaking in the pads to be easier and more forgiving for young goalies. The leg pads also feature cushion padding on the inside landing areas of the knee and calf for an extra layer of protection.
Pad Break
A single external break below the knee is seen on the VX1 leg pads, combined with a soft core and boot, the pads retain the soft, forgiving, traditional feel of previous Velocity line leg pads. The VX1 Youth pads also include a built in pad curve which is designed to help close off the five-hole area.
Knee Cradle
The knee cradle features a double layer inner knee cradle padding. This design keeps the knee in place, and provides high-level protection to keep goalies protected from impacts, reducing the chance of injuries.
Strapping
To adjust the leg pads, Vaughn added an easy strap system with velcro attachments on the leg and knee areas. This allows goalies to easily adjust their pads to a desired fit and feel that is tailored to their preference and needs. The velcro attaches to a landing, which helps keep the leg pads in place.
Toe Taper
The toe on the VX1 leg pads features a taper allowing for superior mobility and recovery pushes while not sacrificing any seal or coverage.
