Bauer Vapor FlyLite Senior Goalie Leg Pads
Editor's Full Product Review
"As the successor to the popular HyperLite 2 series, the FLYLITE builds on Bauer’s proven formula for lightweight, mobile gear tailored to the modern reactive goaltender; the Vapor line has long been a favorite for goalies who play fast and stay aggressive in the crease."
Intro & New Features
Having reliable and high-performance gear is essential for success on the ice, as any hockey goaltender knows. Bauer has released their new Flylite goalie line with many upgrades from the previous Hyperlite line for the 2025 season. The Flylite leg pads feature SL1D3R skin material, a Rebound Boost Core, and a Stabiliflex knee block.
External Material
The Flylite leg pads use the SL1D3R skin material, previously seen on the Hyperlite2 for this upcoming season. SL1D3R skin is a special surface designed to provide superior sliding ability and durability compared to traditional materials used on goalie pads. It is made of a combination of materials. Including a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheet and a proprietary coating. The HDPE sheet is a type of plastic known for its low friction and wear-resistant properties, and the coating further enhances the effect of the HDPE sheet. Goaltenders can enjoy a smoother and more effortless sliding experience on the ice with the SL1D3R skin.
Internal Construction
The Rebound Boost Core returns from the previous Hyperlite to offer enhanced rebound control for goaltenders. The foams used in this core provide a specific level of stiffness and resilience, which helps absorb initial impact, and then quickly return that energy back outwards. This results in a more predictable and consistent rebound, allowing goaltenders to make quicker recoveries and be better positioned for follow-up shots. The Flylite leg pads also feature a CURV Composite reinforced thigh rise. This core is stiffer and is designed to boost rebound speed while remaining light and true to the feel of a stiff pad.
Pad Break
The Flylite leg pads use a single, pre-curved break design. This means that the pad is already shaped with a pre-curve in the leg channel, allowing it to conform to the goaltender’s leg shape more easily. The flex point above and below the knee is designed to provide a more natural and comfortable fit, as well as increased flexibility and mobility for the goaltender.
Boot Angle & Toe Taper
The Flylite leg pads debut a new reactive-flex 100 degree boot angle. This design is constructed to help the pad be more reactive and play in sync with your body without restrictions.
Knee Cradle
The Stabiliflex Knee Block with an extended landing zone is a feature on the Flylite leg pads that is designed to provide stability and support for the goaltenders knee. The foam is engineered to provide good stiffness and support the knee joint. This can help reduce the risk of injury while improving the goalie’s overall comfort and confidence on the ice.
Strapping
Bauer uses their new strapping design, the SLYD strapping on the Flylite leg pads. The strapping system consists of a series of adjustable straps and fasteners that can be configured to achieve the desired level of support, mobility, and comfort. The Flylite also includes an Aerolite calf wrap with abrasion resistant material for better leg connectivity and protection.
Sizes & Colors
The Bauer Vapor Flylite Senior Leg Pads come in White/Black, White, Black, White/Blue, White/Navy, and White/Red, and are available in sizes Extra-Small, Small, Medium, Large, and Extra-Large.
